Some of you may already know me from the work I've done the last few years covering Faribault Lakers Baseball, for those that don't, I'm Kevin Luckow, and through this blog I want to get the word out about bowling in Faribault and everything that is going on at Faribowl/Basher's.
Bowling has been a huge part of Faribault my entire life. As a kid, I hung out at Peterson's Fairbowl watching my Dad and his friends bowl in the Early Owlers league, begging for money for the candy machine and for Pinball. Later I bowled youth and Junior Leagues, even getting to be league secretary for Johnson's Juniors in the 1986-1987 season.
I've bowled for portions of my adult life. Bowled when we still had two bowling alleys running leagues five nights a week, to today when the sport has had a recession but is still alive with leagues on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Along with youth leagues and High School Bowling
I can remember updating the standings for Johnson's Juniors and riding my bike down to the Daily News to drop off the standings and high scores. Now with the Daily News not being so daily anymore, I feel I have a niche to fill here.
My goal with this blog is to highlight every thing going on with Faribault Bowling. Giving the reader the lowdown on what may be going on in their league, who had high scores during the week, who bowled way above their average and deserves a shout out on a job well done, and to keep everyone up to date on all that is going on.
I hope that those bowling in leagues will find this a part of their weekly reading. For those who are not league bowlers but are interested in bowling, I hope that reading this may give them the bug to bowl league. I know there is room for bowlers in many of the leagues, if not this season, definitely next season.
Much like the blogs I've done for the Lakers, I'll publish the blog through the usual social channels including establishing a Faribault Bowling group on Facebook.
If you're interested in contributing, especially for those involved in youth leagues and high school bowling, please get in touch with me, (kevinluckow@hotmail.com). I know there are people that have been involved in bowling in Faribault longer than I have that may have a story or stories to tell, I'll take submissions for that content also.
Notes:
Coming up on Saturday, December 3rd is the Annual Toys for Tots tournament as bowlers will raise money for those less fortunate this Holiday Season. It will be a full house and a fun day for certain.
On Saturday December 17th, it will be the Bowl with Santa event. You can bowl with Santa from 12-2 pm. Games are only $3 and shoes can be rented for $2. If your child is unable or doesn't want to bowl, the big guy will be sticking around as long as he needs to hear what they want for Christmas. There will be a cocoa bar and the kids will be going home with a goody bag.
Also on Saturday December 17th at 8pm, the adults take center stage for Moonlight Bowling. For $20, you can bowl three games with numerous opportunities to win money. There will be an Ugly Sweater theme so bust out your holiday garish best. This will be the third moonlight bowling session of the season. The turnout has been better every time and hopefully this will also be a success.
