Mother Nature dealt us a pretty good blow this week in a snowstorm that insured us that there will be a White Christmas. It provided a nice background to feel festive and what better way to celebrate the season by heading out to bowl with your friends.
First Santa paid a visit on Saturday during the day before seemingly flying over U.S. Bank win to give the Vikings a gift of an overtime win.
Saturday night saw ten lanes holding over 40 bowlers for Moonlight Bowling or as they apparently call it in Illinois, color pin bowling. That number is even more incredible when you consider it is the last Saturday before Christmas and some families were already having early Christmas, and surely there were businesses getting together for company parties. They still do that, right?
It was a fun night as bowlers got into the spirit of the holidays with an Ugly Sweater contest. Moonlight bowling has sure changed from my days of doing it at Johnson's Fair Bowl back in the late 1980's. Back then it was Rick simply calling the money shots from the counter. It's much more livelier now with Don Clayton not only calling the money shots but also adding in commentary.
The next Moonlight Bowling session will be on January 21. With holiday parties out of the system and the dead of Winter setting in with people looking for a reason to get out, I'm hoping to see an even bigger crowd.

Waffle Stomp has been shorthanded all season. We want to thank Rene for her contributions to Bowl Shyt and wish her well in her new endeavor with Waffle Stomp".
Notes:
Basher's/Faribowl will be closing at 4 pm on Christmas Eve and then reopening on Christmas Day at 4 pm. Just like with Thanksgiving, I can remember Christmas night being a busy one at the bowling alleys. So much so that you had to make reservations to get a lane. So if you're looking for something to do on Christmas Night with the relatives or to escape the relatives, come on out to the bowling alley.
For those interested, I started a Faribault Bowlers group on Facebook. I had to make it private in order to keep the spammers out. So look it up, throw a request and I'll add you into the group.
When I got back into bowling, it was a different game that I had left in 2007. The style of ball I used and the approach I took were outdated. I did a deep dive and came upon this video. Two of the all time greats, Nelson Burton Jr. and Dick Weber from 1966. It blew me away how different the game was back then to when I started watching as a kid in 1979.
Until next time, good luck and good shooting.
