Faribault Bowling Observer- Free Beer This Week

Thank you for reading this week's Faribault Bowling Observer. There is no free beer this week. I think often it is the headline that reels people to read this blog. So I decided to test that this week. Remember though, you can actually win free beer along with other prizes through the Evan Knutson Homes Bowling Competition

In St. Paul, tourney time is March when High School Wrestling and Boys & Girls Hockey State Tournaments converge on downtown St. Paul. In Faribault however Tourney Time is next week as the City Bowling Tournament takes place followed by the Super Bowl No Tap Doubles tournament. It should be an exciting week at the ol' Bowlatorium.

Fun thought of the week: Not that it was fun, but I came down with the flu on Tuesday night. So after recovering enough to get up and going somewhat on Friday, I made up my games. I knew how I was going to have to bowl in order for my team to win our games. The deficit was pretty insurmountable in Games two and three, but I would have to only bowl a bit under my average to win the first game. I bowled a 180 which was more than enough to hold the lead. Then the baseball guy kicked in. I figured out that I earned a save for the game. It got me to thinking. Wouldn't it be interesting that one person in each matchup would have to post bowl with a chance to win the game by bowling well enough to erase a deficit,  a loss if they bowled bad enough to lose the game that they would've won if they bowled their average, or get the save by protecting a lead. I earned the save on Friday, Mariano Rivera, here I come.

Onto the leagues and the Three Stars of the night. (I'm going to start adding total star points for the season when I list the Stars of the night).

Notes:

Be sure to check in next week. I'll try my best to have results from both the City Tournament and the Super Bowl Mixed Doubles Tournament. I'll also do a dig and come up with the Top Three Stars from each league since we started keeping track.

With all that is going on, don't forget your next chance to Moonlight Bowl comes up on Saturday February 18th. I'm hoping for another strong turnout. If you haven't checked out Moonlight Bowling, you're really missing out. It's a chance to win money and bowl in a casual atmosphere without the pressure of league points. It's only $20 to bowl, check in is at 7:30 with bowling commencing around 8 pm.

With the US Open being completed this weekend, this week's video is from 45 years ago. The 1978 US Open when Hall of Famer Nelson Burton Jr. ran the step ladder to win the championship. By this time in his career, Burton Jr. was known more as the color commentator for the Pro Bowlers Tour. We were glued to the TV for every week's Nelson Burton Jr. tip of the week. Think about it, you got to love bowling, Tony Romo could never step out of the broadcast booth and win the Super Bowl. I don't know for sure, but I'm betting his victory was a prelude to Wide World of Sports on ABC and a possible Harlem Globetrotters game.

Until next time, good luck and good shooting.
